Windows Screen Saver
The screen saver activates and displays on your screen after there has been no keyboard or mouse activity for a preset time. Here again you have a choice from the menu. There are also a multitude of screensavers available for download from the Internet.
You can change the time delay and with most screen savers you can make adjustment to their behaviour via the Settings button.
With modern monitors a screen saver is no longer necessary for anything other than decoration. Burn in is not a problem. If you're concerned about power consumption, you're better off having the screen switch off after a period of inactivity.

You will notice the Power button on this dialogue box. This gives us control over several options which we'll deal with on the next page: Windows Power Options. Follow the link when you reach the bottom of this page.
Windows Appearance
These controls work in conjunction with the Themes tab and allow you to control the way your PC looks.

Experiment with the dropdown menus and the multitude of choices given to you via the Effects and Advanced buttons.
Lastly, click on the Settings tab.
Windows Screen Display Settings

This is where we tweak our monitor's display settings. You can increase or decrease your screen resolution with the slider control. For most people, 1280 X 1024 or 1024 X 800 are the most suitable settings.
If you have limited vision or a very small and ancient monitor (14") you may have to settle for 800 X 600 or less.
The Advanced Button leads us to more monitor settings which we'll deal with on another page: Monitor Setup.
